  • Overview

Australia produces the largest volume of Citrus fresh fruit for export. The NSW Riverina produces 30% of Australia's citrus fruits - oranges for the table, oranges for juicing, mandarins, lemons, grapefruit, lime and kumquats etc.

Here is your chance to visit a commercial citrus farm in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area where citrus fruits have been grown since 1908. Meet a citrus farmer, talk to him about his business, its annual cycle and major activities. Inspect equipment and machinery used in maintenance, pest control, harvesting and pruning. Observe packing shed operations including quality control, sorting, packing and freighting for domestic and export markets.

Went on a tour with Jonty and it was a delightful experience in Wagga Wagga. Jonty is a wealth of knowledge and was the perfect tour guide. The tour was personalised to the types of farms that we liked and was full of character. Talking to people working on the land is a very different perspective and I would highly recommend anyone interested in agriculture to do this!
