Heading out from the Cairns Marina, you'll board a comfortable vessel and cruise out across the pristine reef waters towards the wonderful shores of Fitzroy Island on a journey that takes roughly 45 minutes.
Once on Fitzroy Island, you'll have up to 6 hours to explore its many stunning natural offerings, taking part in a range of activities on both land and water.
Unlike smaller coral cays or sandy islands on the Great Barrier Reef, Fitzroy was once part of mainland Australia. The island is largely untouched and a protected National Park, with walking tracks through the rainforest, heathland and open forest to Nudey Beach and the Summit.
Hire snorkel gear and explore the fringing coral reefs in both Welcome Bay and Nudey Beach, with hard and soft corals only meters from the shore.
Included in this package is a freshly prepared picnic lunch by Ochre Restaurant & Tropic Spirit Catering.
SEASONAL RATES:
What To Bring: Voucher, Swimwear, Towel, Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Cash/credit card for additional purchases once on the island.
Additional Information: If selecting the full-day trip with lunch, please specify if you would prefer a hot or cold lunch at the time of booking. If no preference is given, guests will receive the cold option (sandwich and wrap).
* Guests travelling to Fitzroy Island will be required to pre-book glass bottom boat tours, guided snorkel tours, and snorkel equipment including lycra/wet suits (to be collected from the vessel)
To keep your day as safe as possible there are a few restrictions you should be aware before making your booking:

a year agoAbsolutely stunning island. We cancelled our reef tour and came here twice as we researched it was the best place to see turtles whilst snorkelling. Loved that we could just get the ferry over and were able to do things at our own pace. The snorkelling was out of this world. Saw 4 turtles and so many different species of fish without swimming deep. The water was crystal clear, warm and the island itself is breath taking.

9 months agoBeautiful inner reef tropical island 45 minute Ferry offshore form downtown Cairns Marlin Wharf. Left of Island Jetty - baby reef sharks swimming in the shallows. Just dump your stuff on the fossiled coral beach and start snorkelling. Bird Rock is for experienced swimmers only. Carefree relaxed vibe island. Boat drops you off with your snorkelling gear and eski (if u bring your own lunch) *tip bring a day pack with only essentials and leave it almost empty to fit your hired snorkelling gear in. 2 FIA crew will stay on the beach under a blue umbrella when the transfer boat leaves. Right of the Island Jetty - Foxys a la carte licensed restaurant, opened for lunch no bookings required. Have lunch and glass of Sav B overlooking the bay!! 20 minute bush walk, over tree roots & big rocks (right footwear important) to Nudey Beach (not a nudist beach!!!). There there is a beach swing and lots of space to make your own little area for swimming and suntanning fun.

a year agoIt was a pretty nice first experience to travel to an island with a reef. The staff on our boat were very friendly and helpful, and were very clear and concise when it came to delivering instructions and information about our day on the island. We had also booked the beginner’s tour for snorkelling as it was our first time. Although we weren’t very accustomed to snorkelling yet, our guide was very informative and supportive of us, and had helped us stay afloat whilst giving us a very detailed tour off the coast above the coral reef. We had plenty of time to explore the island and relax, and although the reef we had explored weren’t very clear or colourful we still enjoyed the experience.

a year agoYou took us across today and what superb weather it was. A bit choppy however on the way back, your captain is clearly very experienced as he seemed to ride the waves rather than smash through like some operators do. The crew were all really friendly. A local guy on the boat, I think called Tim was really interesting and knowledgeable on our trip back and answered all our questions about the local area. What a great team. A suggestion if the crew were up for it was the Aboriginal stories of their ancestors and local communities really make this area of the world unique and to integrate that into the journey is something I think a lot of tourists would appreciate as it's really interesting. For people who were complaining about the lunch, I eat a lot and it did the job (meat pasta). Even with us hiking up to the lighthouse and then swimming for over an hour in the sea. Thanks again Matt

a year agoDefinitely worth taking the Fitzroy flyer for a day trip at Fitzroy island. Takes about 45 minutes to travel out there. If you want to you can stay in the Fitzroy island resort which was amazing to relax after exploring the island during the day. The coral reef here is so convenient and close to shore that you can just swim straight out from the beach. About 10 metres out and the reef can be accessed. If you're lucky you can swim with a turtle or two. If you cannot find one then the turtle rehab centre have tours available. Definitely worth visiting.
