Two Iconic Territory Stories One Iconic Location.
Experience and learn through the wonder of technology as the Royal Flying Doctor Service Darwin Tourist Facility brings history to life.
Using the latest innovations in holographic technology, the life-size hologram cinema experience tells the story of Rev John Flynn's vision and its realisation into the RFDS of today. Climb aboard a decommissioned RFDS Pilatus PC-12 aircraft completely aero-medically equipped and learn about the activities of the RFDS's pilots, engineers, doctors, and nurses and the experiences of the patients that are carried and cared for each day.
The second iconic story featured is the Bombing of Darwin on 19th February 1942. The bombing of the harbour brought destruction to the city of Darwin, and many of the stories have been brought to life through our innovative technology. This exciting world-class exhibit features cutting edge technology - a hologram cinema experience telling the story of Etheridge Grant, virtual reality and a projection window of the Japanese air attack on the harbour.
The RFDS Darwin Tourist Precinct is a must see attraction when visiting Australia's Top End.

2 months agoSo glad we visited; two excellent attractions in one. First the story of the first Japanese air raid on Darwin (19 February 1942), and second the history of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Both are brilliantly presented with holographic movies. There are also excellent VR presentations featuring both attractions. A withdrawn RFDS aircraft completes the display. Sit in the pilots seat, or lie on the patients couch. Great staff too…

4 months agoGreat displays, VR type experiences and cinema shows. They even lent me a towel to dry off with when I entered the building soaking wet. Highly recommend this place!

a year agoThis visit was an amazing experience. We were welcomed by a staff that on few words told us what can we see and what order would work best. That really saved us a lot of time. The 2 hologram stories quite informative, about the bombing of Darwin and how Royal Flying Doctor Service was born and is operated. We checked out a plane with RFDS equipment and the virtual reality experience about bombing of Darwin was quite a treat. The souvenirs store had lots of new and original items. They passed with Flying colours. Highly recommended!
