It wouldn’t be a trip to Mission Beach if you didn’t spend a day at ‘Dunk‘. Covered mostly in national park, the tropical island is a nature lover’s playground with beautiful walking trails and palm-fringed beaches.
Even though the resort is closed (that Cyclone Yasi really gave it a pounding), there’s still so much to love about Dunk Island, which remains open for day trips and camping adventures. From the jetty, make a left and follow the beach until you reach the track signs leading to Muggy Muggy Beach and Mt Kootaloo. If you’re up for a hike, set your sights on Mt Kootaloo first. The steep 7km-return track takes you through ancient fern forests and ironbark groves, past the rusty remains of a World War II radar station, to the island’s highest point with pinch-yourself panoramic views of the Family Group of Islands. On the way back down, landlubbers can continue to explore the island’s core along the circuit track (a round trip takes about 3-4 hours), passing through the Palm Valley before coming out at Coconut Beach.
If the salty seas are calling your name, follow the track back down to the Muggy Muggy Beach turn-off for a dip and a snorkel.

8 months agoWe went to Dundee's restaurant while we were at Cairns Marlin Marina. There are so many different sort of food place, from a quick snack, brewery to 5 star .The kids can have fun in the figtree playground or look for crabs at low tide. The tour boats also leave from there to go to the reef. It is a easy walk for disabled people and many places to sit to take in the scenery. There are many interesting things to read aswell along the walk way.

7 months agoI went there a week ago to go to the Great Barrier Reef, and my experience was awesome! It was so big and beautiful and was just a 5 minute walk from my hotel. Really enjoyed my experience and will for sure be coming back.
