  • Overview

This unique wildlife day-tour brings you face-to-face with one of Australia’s deadliest creatures – the saltwater crocodile, which can grow to 6m long and live for more than 70 years. About 30km south of Airlie Beach, the Proserpine River has the highest concentration of ‘salties’ on Australia’s east coast, with around 150 resident crocs.

From Hamilton Island, cruise to Airlie Beach on the mainland. A 40-minute coach ride takes you through sugarcane plantations to the muddy banks of the Proserpine River. From here, a friendly ranger takes you croc-spotting in a large, secure, flat-bottom vessel. The tour continues to the spectacular Goorganga Wetlands, where you’ll ride on an open-air tractor train and spy birds, wallabies and snakes. Enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch, plus traditional billy tea and damper for afternoon tea.

I've been on the reef tour during peak season. For the reef tour you'll start 8:00 and be back around 18:30. On the boat you'll get a light breakfast (cereal, melon) and coffee/tea. For lunch there's meatballs, chicken curry, rice, cucumber, tomato. There's plenty of communication around possible activities. You can go around with a helicopter, do certified diving (2x), intro diving with plenty of assistance, some boat with underwater view, guided snorkeling or free snorkeling. The pontoon itself has a lower section to watch the water from about 1 meter below. You'll be able to buy those activities on the boat as available. The snorkel side is pretty used up. About a third of the reef is dead, but for snorkelers there's still things to see. For certified divers I would recommend another activity. Despite being the Great Barrier Reef it's been the lower end of my 44 dives and I would not do it again. The boat and equipment in generally good shape and the workflows suitable for loads of people.

I was not sure about going on such a big boat as I hate crowds but I thought the kids would love it and yes it was busy but we still had a really great day! We were lucky to get the most beautiful weather so it was absolutely magic out there on the pontoon for the day. It was quite busy and hectic in the water with all the people and I have never had so many collisions with other swimmers (snorkelers in this case 😄) before but the water was glorious and the fish were amazing! We saw a beautiful turtle swimming around the pontoon. The lunch and morning and afternoon tea was great and very enjoyable for the whole family although I did see they ran out of a couple of things before everyone had eaten, was an extra busy day. The crew were all fabulous and very helpful, thanks for a great day guys! We really enjoyed it, a fantastic day on the Reef for the family! Definitely recommend!

I love taking the ferry. I work on Hamilton Island so I take it whenever I want groceries I can't find on the island. The staff are always very sweet and thoughtful. The captains are incredibly clear and I always feel so safe. When I catch a ferry from Port of Airlie back to the island the people at the front desk always take great care of me!

Booked the cruise a day before but it got cancelled due to bad weather. So I booked another tour after the day. Well, I will go for the parking first, there is a parking lot nearby where you will need to pay. After that you just check in and wait on board. They will provide the wetsuits which are only 2MM, but don't worry, the water is warm so you will be fine without any wetsuit. Fins and masks are on your own, so please bring it if you want to have better experiences. As the half day tour the time is so rushed so I only got 15mins in Hamilton Island. If you have time perhaps you can stay longer Overall I think they did a good job for just bringing us around. Nothing else to complain

As part of my jaunt around the Whitsundays I had to coord a ferry transfer between Hamilton Island and Airlie (return) - and it all went tickety-boo! Cost was about $135 (return) and it all went like clock work. When I arrived into Hamilton, there was a desk at the airport and the said I could leave from the pier nearby rather than the Marina. Cool! The Ferry was clean and I probably didnt have to pre-book as there was heaps of room, but at least it was sorted. When on board, they went through the safety drill chat and basicaly it was a lovely smooth ride in both directions. Staff were always helpful and pleasant ... and why wouldn't ya when living in gods country heh heh! P.S. Actually, I also liked that when I called to book - I wasn't told to go online and do it - I do like technology, but sometimes it's just easier to do on a call when ya already on a call. Noice! Of course, I include Zip with every review- ya welcome (here he is, hiding as he aint a morning prson like his dad 😜)
