Bareboat self-drive charters in the idyllic area of the Great Sandy Strait on the Fraser Coast.
So, what is a bareboat charter? Don’t be fooled by the word bare, because there’s a lot included on our charters. Bareboat charters simply refer to the hire of a boat or vessel without a skipper on board. This means you can truly explore Fraser Island and all its hidden gems with a self-drive sailing holiday, with no set itineraries.
Don’t be afraid if you have no experience, you’ll be provided with a briefing from a fully qualified commercial skipper to make sure you know the ins and outs of the vessel and navigating our beautiful waters before you set sail.
Our skipper will drive the vessel out of the marina for you, where you will then be free to spend a holiday on the water in style!
Sail in comfort and style on Coralita, a Leopard 44 catamaran.

The generous outdoor space and sleeping arrangements makes Coralita excellent for groups or large families. Our favourite feature of this beauty is also the walkthrough straight from the back deck, into the saloon and out onto the front deck.

9 months agoWe had a wonderful 4 night stay on the Indigo catamaran with our 2 children (8 and 3!) we had never done anything like this before! The boat was very well laid out with everything we could need- very comfortable for the 4 of us. Scott and Mal were so comforting and reassuring for us novices and literally on call for our entire stay to help us problem solve and few rookie errors! We’d definitely recommend hiring through these guys! Highlights included beautiful sunsets every day, dingo footprint spotting on K’gari and the lighthouse walk on big woody island. Memories to last a lifetime and some good boating tales to tell the mates back home ;)

3 years agoFirst time I took the family on a self-skippered charter for 3 nights. Indigo is a nice boat and perfectly suited for a family of 4 or 5. The boat was clean, well equipped and provided enough space for everyone (although the engine power was a bit at the lower end). Thanks to the solar panels and wind generator the batteries were always sufficiently loaded (no need to run the engines in the evening to re-charge the batteries). Scott was always friendly and showed us all that we needed to know about the boat so that we felt comfortable sailing on our own (I was the only one in our party with previous experience). He also offered us some flexibility with our charter dates and times that allowed us to maximise our sailing time. Everyone had a great time and we are already looking forward to try and do another sail in the future with more time to explore all the great spots along Fraser Island.

6 months agoWow....how amazing was that experience? We sailed out of Hervey Bay Mariner Saturday 23 September and just had the best 3 days out on the boat. The scenery was amazing and the ever-changing conditions just meant there was something new on each turn of the wheel. Oh and the whales ...how spectacular!!!!! We hired Aquila Sunrise - a very luxurious vessel and just so simple to operate - within the first half hour all my fears of having to drive a big boat were allayed. Scott and Mal made everything so simple and easy. Will definitely be coming back!!!!

a year agoI recently went on ‘Dream On’ for a quick 3 night getaway and had a really lovely time with the family. Chartering such a large vessel seemed daunting at first, but the wealth of information and instruction on the day of boarding made it so much easier to relax and enjoy our time on board. Thanks heaps to Scott & Steph for providing such a great experience from booking to departure. The Cat was quite spacious and well-maintained and suited our family of 5 really well. I was notably impressed by the clean white linen and beds being made similarly to a fancy hotel room. The extra nic nacs such as pegs, insect repellent and tomato sauce came in handy when we realised we didn’t bring them with us – it’s like they had thought of everything. (Not forgetting the onboard coffee machine.) If you are interested in actually sailing and don’t have any experience, I would highly recommend an RYA Introduction to Sailing or Start Yachting course before you go. It will make it so much easier and you will have a lot more fun knowing what you are supposed to be doing. (It’s not essential you sail though as you can motor along just as well.) I would highly recommend taking some snorkelling gear (that we forgot) and fishing gear. We had fun fishing and venturing ashore but with the water so clear we would have loved to enjoy some snorkelling as well. The sunsets are amazing! Overall, a great experience and one that I will be sure to do again.
