Visit the scenic Atherton Tablelands, rich in biodiversity, an area that features a range of habitats including lush tropical rainforest and volcanic crater lakes. Enjoy an Afternoon Tea at the world-renowned, Lake Barrine.
During our adventure by day, we may see the Musky Rat Kangaroo, Boyds Forest Dragon, a selection of rainforest birds, butterflies, and Flying Foxes. At dusk, we venture to the viewing area by the river to search for the Platypus, one of the most unique mammals on earth.
On the tour we will also learn about the tropical rainforest and how local Aboriginal tribes use the vegetation to make tools and to heal and make remedies to solve everyday common ailments.
After dinner at a local country restaurant, our night time spotlighting adventure begins. As we walk under the night stars, and into the World Heritage Rainforest, we may be lucky enough to spot a Lumholtzs Tree Kangaroo, Northern Leaf Tailed Gecko, Ringtail Possums, gliders, frogs, owls and more (most are endemic to the region).
Every night is full of discoveries. Later, on the trip home, we can reflect on what we have seen, and return with an increased appreciation of Australian Wildlife and the World Heritage Rainforests of North Queensland.

6 months agoOur family group aged 7yrs - 70yrs all loved our stay here. We took full advantage of the location and facilities. Morning walks to the beautiful beach, days spent chilling out in the hammock eating ice cream from the near by local ice creamery, swimming in the pool and spotting wildlife. Daily afternoon snooker tournaments and evenings enjoying family dinners on the deck, star gazing and roasting marshmallows. We stayed 5 nights and could have easily stayed 5 more.

a year agoThe most special place to stay and switch off! We spent 10 nights at Wait A While and had the best time. The house is huge and the beds are very comfortable. We were able to do lots of days trips for activities but loved coming back to the house to relax. There was so much to explore and even though we went during peak wet season we were able to do everything (and actually really enjoyed the rain). Thanks again!

a year agoHad an awesome holiday staying at wait-a-while. Spent each morning by waking up and jumping in the pool, reading a book then would drive down the road to get a coffee. Was able to cook our meals in the well equipped kitchen which was great. Day trips to Port Douglas and Mossman were good - but coming back into the forest each day was definitely the highlight. Highly recommend staying here and wish we could of stayed longer.

2 years agoExiting the ferry across the Daintree River you cross the ridge through the ancient Daintree rainforest arriving at Cow Bay. The dense forest surrounds Wait-a-While with the house set into a tropical garden. The house has vistas into the garden and surrounding rain forest viewed through huge windows or from the surrounding verandas. The Retreat is serviced by solar electricity, rain and bore water with gas cooking. A short walk takes you to Cow Bay beach, however a swimming pool is on site to cool off and revitalise. There are many drives, walking tracks and areas to explore from Wait-a-While Retreat.
