Available during SEPTEMBER to APRIL
After a half-hour easy grade bushwalk, a 15-metre abseil takes you down to creek level and its lush temperate rainforest.
As you progress along the creek via a series of abseils up to 16 metres high, the canyon walls gradually begin to rise up each side of the creek.
After a magnificent tunnel section, you will arrive at the beautiful Wollangambe River.
Then it’s time for our famous gourmet lunch and a play in the warmer waters of the main river before a casual hour-long walk back to the car.
The glow-worms you see on this canyon are an added bonus.
Our full-day trips include all technical equipment (abseil gear, wetsuit, waterproof backpack, climbing shoes), lunch, and transport from our office. We also include a waterproof camera for the group.

Meeting Point:
At our office located inside the Blue Mountains YHA, 207 Katoomba Street, Katoomba 2780, only a 5-minute walk from Katoomba train station. Free all-day parking around the back of the hostel.
General Clothing to Wear:
Dress for the weather, wear running or hiking shoes and bring a water bottle and camera. For canyoning, bring running shoes that can get wet, a swimsuit and a waterproof camera. If you don’t have one we supply a waterproof camera free of charge. We also have helmets fitted with GoPro mounts.
Clothing to Wear for Winter Canyoning:
With winter canyoning you need to wear old running shoes (they may get wet and muddy). Thick socks, ideally wool if you have them. Leggings and shorts or quick-drying long pants and shorts. On top, you want to have at least 4 layers, singlet, t-shirt, fleece and a jacket of some description. Bring 1.5 liters of water. We will provide backpacks and all the technical equipment you require.
Age Limit:
We have had people from 6 to 86 participate in our adventures. Generally, we have a minimum age of 14 years for summer canyoning trips. If you have kids under this age, please contact us to see if the canyon would be suitable.
Weather-Dependant:
We still run abseiling, canyoning, and survival courses in light rain. We do need fine weather for rock climbing. Please note that when poor weather is forecast we still decide if the trip is running that morning. This is simply because the forecasts are often wrong.
Your voucher(s) and booking information will be included in the confirmation email you will receive shortly after purchasing the experience on Amazed.com.
If the booking needs to be first confirmed by the host, you will receive your Amazed voucher within 24-48 hours of purchase.

4 months agoWe had an incredible experience canyoning and abseiling with high and wild. The guides made everyone feel safe and comfortable, and their knowledge about wildlife and fauna was incredible. It is a must do in the Blue Mountains! Empress falls and canyons were incredible. I will certainly be back for more!

in the last weekWhat an amazing adventure! We did the Empress Falls canyoning and abseiling with a wonderful group. Started out the morning abseiling down some beautiful spots to help us feel comfortable and learn the ropes. Then enjoyed an incredibly delicious lunch before heading into the canyon. The trek through the canyon was both challenging (and cold) but very rewarding. Most of our group had their own moment where they struggled but our wonderful guide Zol was patient and kind and helped us overcome our fears. Ending with possibly the least graceful descent down the waterfall for me and a textbook perfect descent from my partner then a nice steep hike back out. To say I was pushed out of my comfort zone is an understatement but it was such an incredible experience. I cannot thank Zol enough for his amazing guidance making us feel safe and helping us navigate each part of the day. I recommend High and Wild to anyone looking for an adventure and challenge!

2 months agoBucket list experience! So glad I took the day to do this adventure. Our guides were super polite and kept us safe while answering questions and sharing fun facts. They made sure we were all capable and having a great time. Highly recommend this if you've been thinking about it.

5 months agoFantastic people. Brian was an exceptional guide and a lot of fun to hang with. I was lucky when I booked the combined abseiling and canyoning in that no one else had booked the second half, and I ended up with a private experience. Not only that, we had the canyon to ourselves as well. Not to be missed if you’re in Katoomba!
