Hello! We are Passions of Paradise
About

Passions of Paradise is a truly local company and is one of the few in Cairns that is still owner-operated. Alan Wallish, Managing Director and Founder, built the first Passions of Paradise, a steel catamaran, in Cairns in 1987 with the simple aim of providing a fun trip to the reef. In 1997 he cut the boat in half and extended the length by 4 meters. The result was a faster more comfortable ride with the added bonus of an extended range to access more reefs. Then in 2003, the “new” boat was built; Passions 2. At 25 meters and made of fiberglass she was certainly built for speed and luxury. Passions 2 revolutionized day trips to the Great Barrier Reef and provided a real alternative to traveling on a motorboat. Built-in a high-tech composite facility in China, Passions III, at 30 meters, is one of the fastest and largest sailing catamarans in Australia. Built to travel at 14 to 15 knots, Passions III can access the furthermost outer reef locations. World-class reefs such as Flynn, Milne, and Norman can all be reached within a day trip. At Passions, the day starts and ends with our trip. As a family-run boat, you often see Alan or Scotty out diving, sailing, and chatting with passengers, enjoying bringing a great experience to all that come aboard. We don’t own multiple boats, we are not owned by a multi-national and we don’t have a human resources department. We have always been, and remain, a small dedicated operator, focused on providing you with exceptional customer service and a fun day. Our hand-picked staff is our most valuable resource and they work hard to ensure that your day on the Great Barrier Reef is a special part of your holiday.

The best experience in Cairns! From start to finish, the team’s enthusiasm was infectious. Coupled with professionalism and know how that made me feel safe. I’m not a confident swimmer, but passions of paradise made me feel comfortable in the open water. Big shout out to Drew who took me down for my first scuba dive, couldn’t have gone better. The boat itself is speedy and spacious with enough food to fuel you for the day. If you want to experience the Great Barrier Reef, this is the team for you!

With so many tour companies to choose from, I can not express enough how happy I am that we chose Passions! The boat, the crew, and the food was absolutely amazing! My husband and I did our intro dive, and our instructor Andrea made us feel so safe and showed us the best time. You can tell that the entire staff really all love what they do!

Had an amazing day. Crew was super friendly and the food (vegetarian option) was wonderful. The boat was the best you could wish for and I really enjoyed the "learning lession" about the reefs ecosystem on the way back. Good job! THANK YOU !

Wonderful experience! Boat was clean and plenty of seating. Loved the cushions outside to lay out during the trip to and from the reef. Ben was the perfect dive instructor, helping me feel comfortable as it had been awhile since I’d been diving. I’d highly recommend this company to friends and family. Lunch was served between dives and plenty of food was available. They had seasickness pills on board, they worked great for me as the boat was rocking a lot but they were there to help others who were getting seasick.

We had an incredible experience heading to the outer GBR with Passions of Paradise. Having worked in the charter boat industry, I was thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the crew. Special thanks to Simon for facilitating an awesome intro dive and making me feel safe throughout the process. To the awesome photographer (didn't catch him name but it was 21/12), Erin for the good snorkel spot reccomendations, and Russel for the inspiring marine biology talk.
