Availability is from SEPTEMBER to MARCH
In this unique canyon it is possible to take a li-lo (inflatable airbed) and 'raft' along the river, descending small rapids on the way.
The walk to and from the canyon is very scenic with views of Wollemi National Park, famous for Wollemi Jurassic Pines. There's no abseiling, but the opportunity for fun water jumps more than makes up for it. (Please note that this is a hard walk out of this canyon).
Our full-day trips include all technical equipment (abseil gear, wetsuit, waterproof backpack, climbing shoes), lunch, and transport from our office. We also include a waterproof camera for the group.
The walk to and from the canyon is very scenic with views of Wollemi National Park, famous for the Jurassic Wollemi pines. There’s no abseiling, but the opportunity for fun water jumps more than makes up for it. At some point along the journey, we break for our famous lunch.
There is also an opportunity to explore narrow side canyons such as Kelvinator, so named for its chilly water.
A 1.5-hour uphill walk takes you back to the car. Tough going, but worth it.

2 months agoBucket list experience! So glad I took the day to do this adventure. Our guides were super polite and kept us safe while answering questions and sharing fun facts. They made sure we were all capable and having a great time. Highly recommend this if you've been thinking about it.

6 months agoFantastic people. Brian was an exceptional guide and a lot of fun to hang with. I was lucky when I booked the combined abseiling and canyoning in that no one else had booked the second half, and I ended up with a private experience. Not only that, we had the canyon to ourselves as well. Not to be missed if you’re in Katoomba!

5 months agoWe had an incredible experience canyoning and abseiling with high and wild. The guides made everyone feel safe and comfortable, and their knowledge about wildlife and fauna was incredible. It is a must do in the Blue Mountains! Empress falls and canyons were incredible. I will certainly be back for more!

3 weeks agoWhat an amazing adventure! We did the Empress Falls canyoning and abseiling with a wonderful group. Started out the morning abseiling down some beautiful spots to help us feel comfortable and learn the ropes. Then enjoyed an incredibly delicious lunch before heading into the canyon. The trek through the canyon was both challenging (and cold) but very rewarding. Most of our group had their own moment where they struggled but our wonderful guide Zol was patient and kind and helped us overcome our fears. Ending with possibly the least graceful descent down the waterfall for me and a textbook perfect descent from my partner then a nice steep hike back out. To say I was pushed out of my comfort zone is an understatement but it was such an incredible experience. I cannot thank Zol enough for his amazing guidance making us feel safe and helping us navigate each part of the day. I recommend High and Wild to anyone looking for an adventure and challenge!

7 months agoIt was one of the greatest challenges I had. I'm so glad that I could do it with you guys. I'm afraid of heights, so I pick up the abseiling as a personal challenge. Tim and Zoltan were legends! Super helpful and patient, I had an amazing time in the morning. At the afternoon with the Canyoning I felt so alive and glad that I could accomplish that and face my fear! The Abseiling at the waterfall is stunning! I felt in love with that canyon and with the Blue Mountains there! Really, thank you for everything!
