The O’Keefe Rail Trail cycling tour from Axedale takes you through majestic native forests, rich farmland, picturesque waterways to Heathcote, and return. A fabulous day, and once you've done it, you'll likely want to do it again! A ride along this trail is a great day out for individuals, couples, friends and families.
Forged over a century ago by Victoria’s rail pioneers, the Rail Trail is named after Andrew O’Keefe, a Bendigo rail pioneer.
Cycle from Axedale to Heathcote and enjoy a picnic lunch or purchase lunch from one of Heathcote's cafes or bakeries. There's plenty of choices!
Heathcote boasts the longest main street of any country Australian town, as well as over 30 cellar doors in the region which is renowned for its award-winning shiraz and the famous red Cambrian soils.
This trip is 27 kms each way. A moderate level of fitness is recommended due to the duration and distance travelled.
This tour commences at 10.30 am at Axedale (15 mins from Bendigo and less than 1 hour from Echuca). Ride a comfortable 27.5 kms to Heathcote. Arrive back in Axedale between 4pm and 5pm.
*This tour requires a minimum of eight people to operate-we'll get in contact prior if we don't reach 8 riders.

4 months agoThe steam boat 1 + half hour tour was well worth doing. It's good to see the accommodation along the river bank. Lots of motor boats and jetskis along the way. It's holiday time Now in January. In February it's to hot to visit.

3 weeks agoI need to see and do, here especially for the school holidays. Just check out the old paddle steamers and the big Billabong ranch. Have some farm animals for the school holidays too.

7 months agoNice. Fascinating history and information. Really helpful staff and nice gift shop. They have cool interactive displays and good toilets, very important whilst travelling 😁. Would reccomend. You can also go outside and look at old machinery and see the paddle steamers in steam moving around taking people on trips. Overall a really nice place.
