Hello! We are North Stradbroke Island Museum
About

North Stradbroke Island Museum is a social history museum emphasising contemporary collecting. The museum’s objective and rationale are to represent the 25,000 years or so of Aboriginal history, the British invasion and colonisation and complex shared history of fewer than 200 years.

What visitors first ‘see’ when they enter the Museum is decisive to their perceptions. Currently, the first impressions are non-Aboriginal. The task of the brief (and of the redesign) is to convey that Aboriginal people have at least 20,000 or 25,000 years of custodianship; non-aboriginal people have less than 200 years. And that this resounds in history, culture and the present.
