Cooneana Heritage Centre houses six architecturally significant buildings dating from the 1860s to the1970s. The complex is home to the only specialised coal mining museum in the Ipswich area, as well as a general museum of maps, photographs, artefacts and displays depicting Ipswich's rich history.

Ipswich Historical Society Incorporated is a not-for-profit organisation run on an entirely voluntary basis by members and volunteers who are interested in working with people, artefacts and historical documentation. Our volunteers are sometimes sourced through Volunteering Services Gold Coast - responding to positions we advertise. Others are friends and acquaintances of members or community members who are looking for a new interest.

There are many tasks that need to be undertaken at Cooneana Heritage Centre, including mowing, gardening, watering, painting, conservation of machines, accessioning artefacts, writing policies and procedures, cleaning, displays, research, archiving, cataloguing, repairing books and so on. Think of a task and it will be on our list!
